“Preparing Students for the Global Economy: Ideas for Introducing Global Concepts into the Classroom”
Classroom teachers are looking for a variety of tools to use in the classroom.  From stand-alone lessons for substitute teachers to providing instruction on a day-to-day basis, lesson plans that work are important tools to have in the teacher’s toolbox.  Based upon active learning strategies, this session will introduce lessons plan ideas that can be incorporated into any business class where international concepts are presented.  Participants will be introduced to active learning strategies (ALS) and the components of learning that are required for a lesson to be considered “active learning.”  Various strategies will be introduced with instructions on how to use the strategies to introduce globalization in the business classroom.  Participants will practice some of the strategies as part of the session.

After an introduction to ALS, a series of international business lessons plans that can be utilized at any level of education will be presented.  Each lesson plan will be provide to the participants in electronic format.  All lesson plans will be based upon the NBEA standards for the subject area.  Complete instructions will be provided; however, each lesson plan can be adapted easily to meet the needs of the individual teacher’s classroom.

“Challenges for American Business and American Workers in a Globalized Economy”
The globalized economy has created winners and losers, and in the wake of the weakened economies throughout the world, many businesses have been required to intensify their global presence, while requiring workers to readjust to a changed employment picture. At the center of these global economic challenges are governments that must develop trade and industrial policies, worker retraining programs, and national visions about how best to respond to this new business climate.
